DO I NEED A SECOND SHOOTER?

It’s a question that comes up quite a lot, do we actually need a second shooter? The truth is, it depends on your day and what you want from your photos.

What a Second Shooter Actually Does

A second shooter is another professional photographer who joins me on the day to cover things I physically can’t be in two places for. While I’m focusing on you, they’re capturing what’s happening elsewhere, it’s as simple as that.

Here’s how that helps:

  • Both of you getting ready: If you’re getting ready in different locations, a second shooter can be with one of you while I’m with the other, so nothing’s missed.

  • More guest coverage: While I’m busy with you during portraits or details, they can photograph guests mingling, chatting, and enjoying themselves.

  • Different angles: It’s great during the ceremony, one of us can focus on your entrance while the other catches your partner’s reaction.

  • Extra candid moments: Those in-between bits that often happen when no one’s looking - your family laughing together, your friends on the dance floor - that’s where a second shooter really adds value.

When You Probably Don’t Need One

If you’re having a smaller, relaxed wedding where everything’s happening in one place, a second shooter might not be necessary. I can usually cover everything myself, and it keeps things simple and personal.

For intimate weddings, it can actually feel nicer with just one of us there - less fuss, less attention, and more of a natural flow. I’ll always do my best to capture every detail and moment, no matter what.

When It’s Worth Having a Second Shooter

If your day is spread over multiple locations, you’ve got a big guest list, or you just want as much coverage as possible, a second shooter can make a real difference. It gives a wider perspective of the day, more angles, and more genuine moments without anything feeling staged.

My Honest Opinion

You don’t need a second shooter for every wedding - but they can be a great addition if you want a fuller story of the day. I’m happy to chat through your plans and help figure out whether it’s worth it for you.

At the end of the day, it’s about what matters most - whether that’s full coverage or something more personal and simple.
